The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly passed an Rs2.17 trillion budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27), with Chief Minister Sohail Afridi vowing peace, prosperity, and development for the province. CM Afridi emphasized an enhanced budget for police to Rs40 billion to strengthen law enforcement and stated that Peshawar received the second-largest allocation. The budget includes initiatives like the Insaf Buzurg Card for free BRT travel for seniors and bridge financing to complete the Khyber Institute of Child Health. Afridi also criticized the federal government for not issuing a NOC for a dam in Swat and for inadequate allocations, while also stressing investment in merged districts from provincial resources, linking budget celebrations to Imran Khan's potential release.
