Bamboo could replace petrol, diesel and domestic gas in the future!

Bamboo, a plant historically used for construction and household items, is now being researched as a potential renewable energy source, offering alternatives to petrol, diesel, and cooking gas. Scientific studies indicate that bamboo can be converted into combustible gas, bio-oil, and diesel-like fuels using advanced mechanical and chemical processes. For instance, research from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in October 2026, published in Sustainable Energy & Fuels, explored the hydrothermal liquefaction of bamboo to produce bio-crude oil under high heat and pressure. Additionally, a May 2026 study in Energy demonstrated the production of syngas from bamboo using a 340-kilowatt gasification system. Another 2025 study in Energy Science & Engineering investigated processing bamboo-derived bio-oil for use in diesel engines, assessing performance and emissions. This technology could revolutionize energy production, especially if successfully adapted to local conditions and resource availability in countries like Pakistan, leveraging agricultural resources for fuel.
