Eric Dane opens up about ALS battle, addiction and family in posthumous memoir

Eric Dane, the late actor known for his roles in "Grey's Anatomy" and "Euphoria," posthumously shares deeply personal details about his life in his memoir, "My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments." The book chronicles his battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his struggles with addiction, and his relationships with his family. Dane first noticed ALS symptoms in January 2024 and received his diagnosis in April 2025. He recounts informing his estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, who remained a close friend and supportive co-parent to their daughters, Billie and Georgia, throughout his illness. The memoir also delves into his long history with substance addiction, including multiple relapses during his time on "Grey's Anatomy," and his eventual departure from the show, which he attributed to financial reasons rather than solely his addiction. Dane passed away on February 19, 2026, at 53, leaving behind an intimate account intended for his children and loved ones.
