Pakistan WAPDA demonstrated overwhelming dominance on the opening day of the Lok Sahaaita 54th National Athletics Championships 2026, securing six out of seven available gold medals. National record-holder Shajar Abbas of WAPDA was crowned Pakistan's fastest man after winning the men's 100-meter title, while Faiqa Riaz, also from WAPDA, earned the fastest woman title in the women's 100 meters. Although Sindh's Mah Noor Fatima claimed the championship's inaugural gold in the women's 5,000-meter race walk, WAPDA went on to win gold in the men's 20-kilometer race walk, and both men's and women's 1,500-meter events.
