The Lahore High Court (LHC) has temporarily blocked medical colleges in Punjab from expelling over 30 Afghan students while it reviews petitions challenging their removal. The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) argued the students lacked valid documentation and visas, citing national security concerns, but the court questioned why they were initially admitted and allowed to study for four years. Justice Khalid Ishaq rejected the national security justification and emphasized that students should have been given an opportunity to present their case. The LHC ordered colleges not to expel students or cancel their exam papers, adjourning the case until next Friday, following a PM&DC clarification that their review was not nationality-based discrimination.
