There is no legal mechanism or solid basis for re-determining provinces in the current constitutional structure, Sanaullah Baloch

Former Balochistan provincial minister Sanaullah Baloch stated on social media platform X that the current constitutional framework lacks a credible legal mechanism or a solid moral basis for redefining or restructuring provincial boundaries. He emphasized that any serious attempt to fundamentally change the federal map must address the core architecture of the constitution, going beyond mere partial amendments. Baloch suggested that if the establishment believes Pakistan needs a new federal and administrative system, it should support the establishment of a 'Constituent Assembly' to allow the people within the federation to collectively renegotiate the terms of the 'Union'. The objective should be to redraft the constitutional agreement clause-by-clause, addressing structural flaws that have led to political deprivation, unbalanced development, over-centralization, weak provincial autonomy, distorted financial arrangements, and persistent democratic instability. He concluded that the fundamental question is not about the number of provinces but what kind of federation is to be built and which constitutional system can guarantee political equality, economic justice, and meaningful autonomy for all its units, advocating for a re-evaluation of the entire constitutional structure.
