Chinese company meets President Zardari, proposes $522m for first phase of Keti Bunder port

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has proposed a preliminary $522.34 million engineering cost for the first phase of a new deep-water port at Keti Bunder, near Karachi, Pakistan. This proposal was presented to President Asif Ali Zardari, who emphasized the need for integrated development, including supporting road links, power, water, and industrial infrastructure. President Zardari highlighted Keti Bunder's potential as an additional maritime gateway to strengthen Pakistan's logistics and trade, while also stressing the importance of environmental sustainability and protecting the Indus Delta ecosystem and local fishing communities. He encouraged continued technical engagement to refine the master plan and establish an implementation and financing framework.
