Shabdaraz Makes First Recorded Ascent of Karambar Peak

Chitral Today

A group of adventurers from Chitral, named Shabdaraz, has achieved what they claim to be the first recorded ascent of Karambar Peak, also known as Xui Sar, a 5,515-meter mountain in Broghil, Upper Chitral. The 10-member expedition reached the summit on August 21, 2026, at 9:40 am via the West Ridge in alpine style, establishing Base Camp at Karambar Lake (4,300m) and Camp 1 at 4,615m. Seven climbers, led by Arif Shimshali, summited the peak, naming their route 'The Shabdaraz Route' and two technical sections 'The Arif Wall' and 'Rija Step,' with Arham Rija Saleem becoming the first woman to summit. This ascent builds on Shabdaraz’s previous exploration and aligns with their mission to promote unexplored peaks and train young mountaineers, opening a new route on a spectacular, less-explored mountain.
