Punjab Begins Work to Curb Riverbank Erosion in Layyah

The Punjab government has initiated emergency measures to combat riverbank erosion in Layyah, specifically in the Samra Nasheeb and Basti Kanjal areas, following directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Saif Anwar Jappa visited the sites, where heavy machinery has been deployed for the construction of a spur. The government is also considering long-term solutions like flood protection embankments and river diversion. Flood relief camps have been established, and officials are instructed to provide essential facilities and food hampers to affected families, while daily progress reports are mandated.
