New Policy Ready to Make Phones and Tracking Devices in Pakistan

Pakistan's federal government is developing a "Made in Pakistan" policy aimed at boosting local manufacturing of mobile phones, laptops, and various other electronic devices, including signal boosters, tracking systems, and smartwatches. The policy proposes tax incentives for manufacturers, such as exemptions on raw materials, and suggests a levy of up to 5 percent on imported electronic products to encourage domestic production. This initiative seeks to reduce Pakistan's substantial annual import bill for electronic devices, currently exceeding $422.3 million, and expand the country's manufacturing base. While the policy is drafted and awaiting final approval, its implementation is expected to foster a local electronics industry and decrease import dependency.
