Astronomers detect fastest known star in Milky Way

Astronomers have discovered the fastest known star in the Milky Way, designated S301, which is orbiting the supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* at the galaxy's center. S301 travels at an astounding 25,000 km per second, a speed 100,000 times greater than a commercial aircraft. This star is also the closest known star to Sagittarius A*, approaching it at a distance comparable to Saturn's orbit around the Sun. Its extreme proximity and speed are significant because they could provide unprecedented opportunities to study the fundamental properties of the black hole, potentially opening a new window into its nature.
