China readies robotic lunar mission in search for water ice

China is preparing its most complex robotic lunar mission, Chang’e 7, to search for water ice in the Moon’s south polar region. The four-part spacecraft, including an orbiter, lander, rover, and hopping mini-probe, was transferred to the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site. Engineers will conduct final checks before launch, aiming for breakthroughs in soft landing, mobility, and exploring permanently shadowed craters. The mini-probe will detect water molecules and other compounds in sunless lunar pits. This mission follows China's six successful robotic lunar missions, including Chang’e 6 which returned samples from the Moon's far side, highlighting China's advanced capabilities and international cooperation in space exploration.
