12 New Pakistani Sites Added to UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List

Pakistan has significantly expanded its UNESCO World Heritage tentative list by adding 12 new cultural and heritage sites, increasing the total from 25 to 37 properties. These additions, made in three phases in March and May, include diverse sites such as archaeological complexes, Buddhist remains, Islamic architecture, historic forts, and living indigenous traditions like the Kalasha Valley Cultural Landscape. The expansion reflects the government's commitment to documenting, conserving, and promoting Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, viewing these sites as crucial assets for tourism, education, cultural diplomacy, and sustainable economic growth. Five of the new properties are located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, showcasing the region's historical depth and cultural significance, including connections to ancient civilizations and Alexander the Great.
