Researchers have identified Skeleton 150, unearthed at Stirling Castle in Scotland, as a potential first confirmed trebuchet casualty from the 1300s. University of Bradford bioarchaeologist Jo Buckberry examined the remains, noting over 160 fractures, including a ruined leg, massive shoulder break, and 61 skull fractures, suggesting the individual was hit by something moving at high velocity, akin to modern-day car crash victims. This discovery provides a unique archaeological insight into the brutal reality of medieval siege warfare, particularly during the 1304 siege of Stirling Castle by Edward I, and offers a rare physical example of the destructive power of trebuchets.
