KP Assembly Amendments End Lifetime Blue Passports for MPAs

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Pakistan unanimously passed amendments to the Members’ Privileges and Facilities Act 2026, eliminating lifetime official blue passports for provincial lawmakers, which were widely criticized. Now, these passports are valid only while members hold their legislative seats. The amendments also reinstated four free arms licenses for each legislator and eased fines for journalists. In a separate vote, the Assembly also unanimously adopted a resolution rejecting any merger of Haripur and Abbottabad districts into the federal capital territory, asserting provincial autonomy and claims over its territory and resources. Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi presided over the session.
